Days out in Surrey
near Box Hill

visit surrey Member logo.png

Our walking tours start near Dorking and Leatherhead in a delightful part of the North Downs in Surrey, only 50 minutes by train from central London. Enjoy an immersive guided tour of woodland, home to a wide range of flora and fauna and some critically endangered species.

Why not have a car-free day out in scenic Surrey countryside? The train will drop you at picturesque Box Hill & Westhumble station at which our guide will meet you and whisk you away along less-walked winding paths and quiet byways. Along the trail you will see sites of local history and find out how to read the trees and plant life around you. We look forward to sharing this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty through our nature excursions designed especially for you, your family and friends.

Have a date in mind? Get in touch and we will be delighted to talk through your requirements to provide a beautiful day of hiking for your group with either a lunch or cream tea included.

Our walks are easy to moderate in difficulty.

What People Say
about their day out in Surrey

"The Natural History Tour' of Norbury Park was most inspiring and very well organised. The Guides were very knowledgeable and I learnt a lot about the history of the area, trees, flora and fauna. I could not believe the delightful cream tea laid on at the end of the walk. The attention to detail was amazing with linen table cloths, napkins, flowers and a first class cream tea."  Beverly Mann

Like the outdoors, love hiking or cycling? We encourage you to keep doing what you love on your birthday and invite your friends along, all in the knowledge that your special day has had minimal impact on the environment.

We provide either a guided hike with fascinating natural history content, or bring your bike and we will provide a stunning cycle route in the Surrey Hills. Both have a surprise birthday lunch or tea location and start at Box Hill and Westhumble station.

We don’t use balloons or throw away party decorations but you’ll get a beautiful tablescape with linens, home made food and for the backdrop, well we let nature take care of that. You'll have a great day and we guarantee that birthday backdrop is unique.

Celebration cakes of all descriptions can be included. Example cup cake bouquet pictured here.

Whether it is a class group of 30 children, or a year group of 90 children, we offer hiking experiences which can take in woods, river and farmland. For some it may be their first visit to a countryside location and for others it may be a chance to notice what is happening just under the leaves at their feet or up there in the trees. Our guides will always find amazing facets of nature to point out to help children read what is going on in nature, from the eco-system within a single cow pat to identifying poisonous plants and the insects that eat them. Contact us to arrange a natural history hike for your school group.

Future-proofing our environment can seem an overwhelming problem. But here are just a few ways we can each help at grass roots level: Consider leaving the car at home and hopping on a train. If you bring picnics take your litter home. If you see a piece of litter pick it up and dispose of it in a bin.  Respect the countryside code.

“In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” John Muir
